In order to prepare for an unpredictable eruption of Mt. Fuji, Yamanashi Prefecture decided to install observation equipment at the 4th station to study the movement of underground magma from changes in gravity.

This initiative will be carried out by the Mount Fuji Research Institute in Yamanashi Prefecture to strengthen its monitoring system for volcanic activity.

Specifically, next month, we will install observation equipment in a building at the 4th station of Mt. Fuji to study the movement of underground magma from slight changes in gravity.

The installation location is included in the assumed range of a crater that will be created in the event of an eruption on the hazard map of Mt. Fuji.

According to the research institute, the value of gravity fluctuates finely depending on the movement of magma and volcanic gas, so if you observe it on a 24-hour basis, you can predict eruptions with higher accuracy.

In the future, the institute hopes to share observation data with the Japan Meteorological Agency and other research institutes to help prevent volcanoes nationwide.
