 On the sidelines of the Sharjah Book Fair, the Ministry of Culture and Youth launched a new initiative under the title "Create Publishing" aimed at enriching the publishing movement and local content by issuing 100 books (500 copies) for each title in various literary, intellectual and cultural fields and fields in cooperation with the United Press during The year 2023, in the presence of Her Excellency Noura bint Mohammed Al Kaabi, Minister of Culture and Youth, and a large group of writers, writers and representatives of publishing houses.

The "Creative Publishing" initiative falls within the framework of a more comprehensive strategy under the slogan "Innovate", through which the ministry aims to promote the cultural and creative industries sector in the UAE, and to take care of talented and creative people in many creative fields.

The initiative targets 500 writers and 100 publishing houses, by supporting creators and writers in the country, and motivating the publishing houses in it, especially new writers, and researchers to continue creative production by providing them with an appropriate environment, and developing effective marketing plans for their books and productions by organizing a group of Activities and accompanying events in many important cultural events that are held locally, regionally and internationally.

In her statement, Her Excellency Noura bint Mohammed Al Kaabi, Minister of Culture and Youth, said: "This initiative comes in line with the axes of the national strategy for cultural and creative industries, as we seek through the "Creative" initiatives to support talented and creative people in various fields. Today, the "Innovate Publishing Initiative" comes To promote the publishing industry in the country as a basic pillar in introducing the achievements of creators and their projects, and to provide libraries with many qualitative contents that serve to advance the knowledge and culture of society.

Her Excellency continued: "The UAE has a great presence in the field of publishing, as it possesses the ingredients, infrastructure and human competencies that allow it to be an ideal environment incubating the various efforts concerned in this regard. We hope, through this initiative, to contribute to the continuity of the book industry and to provide workers, specialists and publishers who They take the state as their headquarters with all that is necessary in order to continue issuing books and titles that serve the cultural reality and enhance the state’s position and leadership in this sector.”

On the sidelines of the event, His Excellency Mubarak Al-Nakhi, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Culture and Youth, and Mr. Ali Saif Al-Nuaimi, Director General of the United Press, signed a memorandum of understanding under which the latter will print 50,000 copies for 100 books, 500 copies for each title within various literary, intellectual and cultural fields and fields, in coordination with the Ministry. .

The Ministry has developed an integrated plan to implement the initiative, during which publishers and writers will be supported by adopting the printing of their books, in addition to providing office spaces for relevant associations equipped with a large number of sources and references spread across the emirates of the country, in addition to hosting the writers who benefit from the campaign within the Ministry’s programs and activities, local exhibitions and international participations. In addition to promoting their books through the Ministry's communication sites.

As support for publishing houses and the author, 50 copies of each book will be provided to the author, 300 copies to publishing houses to sell books through sales outlets in the country and at local and international book fairs, and the remaining copies to government, private and university libraries and editors-in-chief of newspapers and cultural magazines to direct those concerned to market the book.

The ministry will supervise the initiative and allocate an integrated package of systems and mechanisms that define work standards. In return, publishing houses will take over the task of selecting books and nominating them for printing, working on reviewing technical standards for designing covers, taking approvals and submitting them to the ministry for final approval, in addition to concluding contracts and publishing printed books. The initiative set a number of conditions, the most prominent of which is that each publishing house submits a maximum of two books for evaluation by the selection committee (the ministry has the right to choose one of them), and the work must be of high quality in terms of content, design and other conditions that can be viewed through the ministry’s official website. .
