World leaders will try to convince COP27 of their actions

COP27 gets to the heart of the matter.

The world will indeed know from this Monday the level of will of the leaders of the planet to face the climate crisis.

Under pressure to strengthen their commitments in the face of a warming that is racing, some 110 heads of state and government must speak until Tuesday before the delegates gathered in Egypt.

A symbol of the "backsliding" that many say they fear, only 29 countries have tabled enhanced reduction plans since the 2021 COP, even though they had adopted a "pact" calling on them to do so.

Any announcements of additional reductions will therefore be closely scrutinized.

Floods and landslides in the West Indies

The climatic situation is complicated in the West Indies.

Torrential rains fell on several municipalities in Guadeloupe on Sunday, causing floods and landslides, a few weeks after storm Fiona which caused major damage on the island.

Guadeloupe was kept on orange alert for heavy rains and thunderstorms by Météo-France in its late afternoon bulletin.

Schools (primary, kindergarten, college, high school) in Guadeloupe, Marie-Galante, Les Saintes, La Désirade and Saint-Martin will remain closed on Monday due to the risk of flooding.

In Martinique, again placed in yellow vigilance on Sunday after being hoisted in orange on Saturday, intense showers copiously sprinkled the northeast of the island, causing landslides there too.

Caroline Garcia easily qualifies for the WTA Masters final

Caroline Garcia is only one match away from realizing her dream: to become the second Frenchwoman to add her name to the list of winners of a WTA Masters, after Amélie Mauresmo, who was crowned at the expense of Mary Pierce in 2005. And this goal seems more than ever within reach of the racket as the Lyonnaise is imperial on the court.

Sunday in Texas, for her second participation, she easily offered herself a first place in the final, beating 6-3, 6-2 the Greek Maria Sakkari.

And in the last match, she will be opposed to the Belarusian Aryna Sabalenka, surprise faller of Iga Swiatek.
