The installation of a giant screen broadcasting the 2022 Football World Cup outdoors in Beauvais (Oise) has not yet been decided by the municipal team.

Before deciding, the mayor UDI Franck Pia wishes to consult the population.

For this, an online vote is organized until November 20, indicates Actu Oise.

Organized in Qatar from November 20 to December 18, the competition has many opponents who have pointed to ecological and humanitarian shortcomings.

Several cities have also decided not to organize public broadcasts of matches.

Among them, we find Paris, Marseille (Bouches-du-Rhône) or Toulouse (Haute-Garonne).

A “political” subject

“We cannot ignore the social and environmental issues raised by the holding of this World Cup,” said Franck Pia.

The city councilor explained that he did not want to take a unilateral position concerning a “subject […] that had become political”.

He assured that the majority choice expressed by the inhabitants would be respected.
