From severe black and odor to clear water and green shores, the Huangpu River and Suzhou River have witnessed the development and governance of Shanghai.

At the World Cities Day global home event series forum held in Shanghai, domestic and foreign experts praised Shanghai's active promotion of the construction of a "one river and one river" demonstration zone for urban refined governance, believing that this move provides a Chinese sample for the sustainable development of global cities. .

The "Centennial Campus" East China University of Political Science and Law was integrated into the Suzhou River Waterfront Greenland Landscape Improvement Project, and was included in the "Shanghai Handbook - Guide to Sustainable Urban Development in the 21st Century 2022 Annual Report" in the form of a column.

Here, citizens can not only take a stroll along the Suzhou River, but also take a rest in the nearby park and woods.

"Centennial Campus", "Centennial Building" in Suzhou Hehuazheng Section, "Centennial Park" in Zhongshan Park, "Centennial Old Tree", 20 "Centennial Bus" for commuting for riverside citizens and tourists, and "Centennial Bus" on the riverside The road "Wanhangdu Road" and "Six Centuries" are perfectly integrated in the Changning section of the Suzhou River, becoming an open and shared public space.

The buildings along the Suzhou River, such as the Memorial Hall of the Anti-Japanese War of the Sihang Warehouse, the Bund Source, Tianan Thousand Trees, the Riverside Building, and the Shanghai Post Museum, have become check-in points that attract people.

At present, Shanghai is further stringing beads into chains, lighting up the "water parlor" of Suzhou River.

In recent years, Shanghai has accelerated the adjustment of the functional layout of river shorelines, comprehensively implemented the renovation and upgrading of waterfront public spaces, and successively realized the 45-kilometer shoreline in the core section of the Huangpu River and the 42-kilometer shoreline in the central urban area of Suzhou River, realizing the return of water to the people. , Returning to the shore for the people, the former "industrial rust belt" has gradually transformed into today's "life show belt" with clear water, beautiful shore and easy to travel.

"One river and one river" waterfront public space is one of the largest practice areas for refined urban governance in Shanghai.

The opening of the golden waterfront, the problem lies in the water, and the key lies on the shore.

Taking Suzhou River as an example, at the beginning of the project, there were about 15.3 kilometers of unconnected shorelines on both sides of the Suzhou River in the central urban area, and 63 breakpoints existed.

In the process of "returning the river to the people", Shanghai actively encourages the units along the line and the residents of the community to actively participate in and jointly build, cooperate with the release of the coastline, and share the fruits of urban development.

Therefore, the connection of "one river and one river" has never been a simple construction project, but a social governance project.

When people are connected, the project will go smoothly.

Pollution interception and pollution control, dredging and dredging, dock relocation, construction of sanitation facilities, land improvement and greening construction on both sides of the river... After more than 20 years, four phases of comprehensive environmental improvement projects have been implemented in Suzhou River. The improvement has also achieved the improvement of the water quality of the whole basin, from "unparalleled fish and shrimp" to "everyone loves it".

Zhu Jianhao, a first-level inspector of the Shanghai Municipal Commission of Housing and Urban-Rural Development, said that in the three years from 2018 to 2020, Shanghai carried out a comprehensive improvement of the waterfront area of about 20.2 square kilometers along the Suzhou River, and cleaned, beautified and brightened 78 buildings along the coast. The facade, 110 road sections, and 33 bridges across the river ensure a substantial improvement in the overall quality of the space along the river.

"Through the Suzhou River connection and upgrading project, Shanghai has explored and implemented new methods and new paths for comprehensive management of all elements, accumulating experience for refined urban governance."
