An imposing virtual reality helmet over his eyes, a dummy weapon in his hand, and a computer on his back.

No less than five kilos of equipment to play a video game!

The practice is unusual.

It can be considered uncomfortable.

However, it seduces many players: e-sport in virtual reality now has its followers.

On the occasion of the opening of Paris Games Week (PGW), this Wednesday in Paris, the public will be able to discover this practice with EVA, a pioneer in e-sport in virtual reality.

The French company is renewing its device for the 2019 PGW: an arena of 500 square meters, in which visitors test this new way of playing, where they must move.

From virtual to reality, video games are increasingly becoming a “real” sport.

A response to a sedentary lifestyle

Met before the opening of the "PGW", the co-founder of EVA Jean Mariotte defends in this podcast the sporting ambition of his innovation.

“The number one hobby in the world is video games.

Unfortunately, it promotes a sedentary lifestyle,” he notes.

"It's a real global health issue, and we are potentially coming to an answer," explains Jean Mariotte.

In this exchange, he points to the sporting arguments of e-sport in virtual reality.

The twenty-minute games follow one another, and stimulate the players.

They must squat, accelerate, hold lines, shoot, all in a tense atmosphere.

“There is a certain pressure when you play.

And that will cause us to consume energy, without necessarily realizing it, ”underlines this manager.

The Olympic Games in sight

What are the players saying?

We met the Mystic team, finalist of the Coupe de France organized by EVA.

His players hope to win the new edition, this Friday at the "PGW".

They will have competition.

With fifteen rooms open in France, teams have been formed over small competitions.

The practice, which is becoming structured, aims to create an ecosystem close to “classic” e-sport.

In the hall of Beauchamp, in the suburbs of Paris, the Mystic team came to train.

In this podcast, you will hear the testimony of one of the team's players, Pascal.

The young man explains in particular his weight loss thanks to e-sport in virtual reality.

Will virtual reality esports take over the world?

For Jean Mariotte, of the company EVA, there is no doubt: "We have the ambition to be officially at the Olympic Games in 2028".
