The Ethiopian government and the rebels of Tigray have agreed on a cessation of hostilities in this region of northern Ethiopia in conflict for two years, announced Wednesday the African Union (AU).

Delegations from the Ethiopian federal government and the rebels had been meeting under the aegis of the AU since October 25 in Pretoria.

This meeting is the first dialogue made public between the two camps.

The Paris Assize Court on Wednesday sentenced ex-rebel commander Kunti Kamara to life imprisonment for acts of barbarism during Liberia's first civil war and for being an accomplice to crimes against humanity in facilitating rape.
