• For the second time this year, the Negresco opened its doors to the youngest with the aim of introducing them to art.

  • An event produced in collaboration with Art Kids Company and street artist Jordane Saget who “plays with lines”.

  • Just before entering the establishment, the artist invaded the Promenade des Anglais to allow “everyone” to be “immersed in art”, and in particular the children who played with his lines.

Walk between or cut the lines?

Passers-by on the Promenade des Anglais in Nice did not really know how to act in the face of the work of artist Jordane Saget, who took over the place in front of the Negresco to produce an ephemeral work this Wednesday morning.

In the end, it was two children who moved the lines, by playing on them.

“Without any instructions or rules to follow, they naturally have fun and become one with the art.

I think it's great, ”comments Jordane Saget.

He then introduced more than 40 children to this field in a workshop organized by the Negresco and Art Kids Company.

The workshop being full and paying (45 euros with a snack made by a chef), the artist “invaded” the space in front of the hotel a few hours before to “democratize” his lines.

"It was also a way to respond to the transmission vocation of Art Kids Company and to offer art to everyone", emphasizes the manager, Martine César.

Follow the guideline

For the second time this year, the hotel, which is celebrating its 110th anniversary, wanted to open its doors to other customers, who are less familiar with the place since they are between four and ten years old.

"The concept is to follow the guideline of Jeanne Augier [the owner, who died in January 2019] who above all wanted to make people discover, through her collection, the great eras that marked the History of France through art. , from Louis XIII to today, develops Hélène Seropian, in the communication of the hotel.

She was very attached to this transmission of culture and heritage.

The children then passed through the doors of the prestigious establishment, whose facade and dome are listed and which houses more than 6,000 works.

In the heart of the Masséna room, in a Napoleon 1st atmosphere, it was notably with Charlotte, mediator of Art Kids Company, that they benefited from "an artistic awakening" in a place where "know-how reigns and filled of stories”.

“For children of this age to be receptive, it is a question of adapting our speeches, explains Charlotte.

For example, through mini-games like hide-and-seek to start a discussion around the works.

“Art opens doors”

According to the mediator, it is important to open this "common" culture "at an early age" to "awaken appetites and passions for art".

The dialogue with the artist is then “essential”.

This is what Jordane Saget would have liked when he was younger.

"We always want to do well, we try not to exceed, but on the contrary, making art is to deconstruct and everyone has the possibility of expressing themselves and being creative in their own way according to their sensitivity. , he says.

Art does not necessarily mean knowing how to draw well.

For him, it's "easy" to share and learn the secrets of his work" with children because for them, "the lines" are "roads, spaghetti, it speaks and it's accessible to everybody ".

He also shares his methods on social networks where he is followed by almost 100,000 people.

In the same vein, the Art Kids Company workshop sheets can be downloaded free of charge for anyone who works with children.
