More than 140 artists from 41 countries have won the Velázquez Prize for Painting, Sculpture, Best Image, Best Landscape, and Best Still Life.

  The 2nd Velázquez Painting and Sculpture Competition is jointly sponsored by the Spanish Museum of Modern Art, the Spanish Art and Artists Foundation and the Chinese "Sheng Xinyu Art" institution. Since its launch in January this year, it has received extensive attention and support from global artists.

According to the statistics of the organizing committee of the competition, this competition received 2,356 works by nearly 1,000 artists, including 193 overseas artists and 569 entries.

  The Velázquez Painting and Sculpture Competition is held in memory of Diego Velázquez, the great master of Spanish Golden Age art.

Velázquez's figures and portraits are world-renowned for their precise "dramatic light and shadow" effects, bold and free painting methods.

In addition to the comprehensive expression of historical and cultural significance in his works, the exploration of painting materials and techniques has also reached an unprecedented height, forming a unique figurative realistic painting style and technique.

  In 2020, Sheng Xinyu Art Institute successfully hosted the first Velázquez Painting and Sculpture Competition in China in cooperation with the City Hall of Seville and the Spanish Museum of Modern Art.

The second competition not only invited 16 art experts from China, Spain, Italy, the United States, the United Kingdom and Japan to form a jury, but some internationally renowned art institutions also set up special awards in the competition, such as: "Art Renaissance Center Excellence Award" (established by the ARC Art Renaissance Center in the United States), "European Museum of Modern Art Award" (established by the European Museum of Modern Art in Spain), "New York Academy of Art Award" (established by the New York Academy of Art), "Da Vinci Visual Art Award" (Italy Cultural and Art Exchange Association), etc., to encourage more excellent creations by artists.

  Zhang Hongbin, the chief curator of this competition and founder of Sheng Xinyu Art, said that as an international art competition in China, the Velázquez Painting and Sculpture Competition not only promotes cultural and artistic exchanges between China and the West, but also contributes to Chinese excellence Artists and works of art go to the world.

  The judge of the competition and the president of the Italian Cultural and Art Exchange Association, Rafael Padovan, said that in this competition, Chinese artists have shown a high level of artistic creation in portraits, still lifes and landscape paintings.

  According to the plan, the Velázquez Painting and Sculpture Competition is held every two years in China.
