Recently, the first training course for college students' pension social workers in Shanghai was officially opened.

About 200 college students from 18 universities and 21 majors in Shanghai participated in the training.

  A joint survey by the Shanghai Municipal Office on Aging, the Municipal Health Commission and the Municipal Bureau of Statistics shows that by the end of 2021, the number of elderly people aged 60 and above in Shanghai will reach 5.4222 million, accounting for 36.3% of the total registered population.

The huge elderly population base, coupled with the continuous iterative demand for elderly care services, put forward higher requirements for talents in the elderly care service industry.

  Wang Songhua said that ordinary young people don't know much about the elderly care industry and have prejudice against the industry. Another third of the trainees are from pension institutions, and these personnel are involved in various positions such as management and front-line services.

  Shen Jiaqi, a third-year student majoring in labor and social security at Shanghai University of Applied Sciences, deeply felt the content of the training course.

She said that although social workers have learned the relevant knowledge in the classroom, they have not been involved in the field of elderly care before. Such training has given her a more intuitive understanding of the field of elderly care.
