A dozen Extinction Rebellion (XR) activists took action last Friday at the Paris Motor Show.

Some activists stuck to sports cars to denounce the "individual car model".

The organization returned to the action, which took place on the stand of exceptional cars at the annual show, in a press release.

The activists wanted to denounce "a polluting industry which seeks to wash away its image with the help of 'green' vehicles but which continues to promote the individual car as the transport of the future".

Denounce the "absurdity" of individual vehicles

A photo released by Extinction Rebellion shows the activists holding a "World of Self-Destruct" banner and three red sports cars covered in black paint.

Four volunteers sat at the foot of the cars, their hands stuck with glue on the hoods.

Eleven people were arrested, according to the environmental movement.

The civil disobedience movement took the opportunity to demand “the ban on advertising for individual vehicles” and “an improvement in public transport to reduce precarious mobility”, specifies the press release.

Activists denounce the “absurdity” of promoting individual cars “when electricity and fuel have never been so unaffordable”.

"The motors and batteries essential to electric and hybrid vehicles, sold as 'green', are produced from materials whose exploitation is extremely costly in terms of human lives, energy and pollution", adds the press release, pointing out the role of the automotive industry in climate change.

In France, the transport sector accounts for approximately 30% of greenhouse gas emissions.
