Druelle Balsac (Aveyron) will host a photovoltaic power plant, work on which began this month.

The site will be called Soleil de Balsac, VSB Energies Nouvelles announced on Wednesday, at the initiative of the project.

The 16,740 solar panels will be installed on an old quarry, specifies

It is therefore no longer kaolin, clay, sand or even gravel that will be extracted on site, but electricity that respects the environment.

The solar power plant should indeed prevent the emission into the atmosphere of 2,657 tons of CO2 per year.

However, the site is far from ready to go.

The work is scheduled until March 2023 at the earliest.

Ultimately, Soleil de Balsac will provide the local population with 10,542.015 MWh each year.

This is the equivalent of the annual consumption of nearly 5,000 people.

The total power released by the structure will be 9.2 MWp.

Solar now represents around 3% of the French energy mix, said Maël Lagarde, CEO and manager of VSB.
