Arab Fashion Week establishes Dubai as a global destination for creativity

Executive Vice President of Dubai Design District, Khadija Al Bastaki, confirmed that the Arab Fashion Week, which was held in a strategic partnership with the Arab Fashion Council, plays a pivotal role in the fashion sector at the regional level, and contributes to elevating it to the ranks of world-class fashion events, thus enhancing Dubai's position. A global destination for the world of fashion and fashion, explaining that Dubai Design District is keen to establish Dubai and the UAE as a global destination for design, arts and creativity.

Al Bastaki told "Emirates Today" that the fashion shows that carried out the 21st edition of the event highlighted sustainability and innovative technology used to advance the fashion sector in general, in addition to a group of prominent events organized for the first time, including wonderful entertainment and music activities, shopping and dining experiences. She stressed the keenness of the Dubai Design District to provide leading platforms to highlight the creative talents that abound in Dubai, the region and the world, with the aim of helping them reach new partnerships, which allows for more opportunities for expansion and growth.

On Dubai Design District’s support for the creative economy strategy, Al Bastaki said: “Dubai is a global economic destination, and creativity is part of our economy and a major driver of the future, and we at (Dubai Design District) are keen to establish Dubai and the UAE as a global destination for design, arts and creativity.”

She added: "Since its establishment in 2013, (Dubai Design) has succeeded in attracting the most famous names in the world of design and creativity, by providing an attractive and competitive business environment with a strategic location, supported by advanced infrastructure, diverse creative work spaces, exhibitions and art galleries, as well as a calendar Annual event, and strategic partnerships with prominent platforms, such as Dubai Design Week, Arab Fashion Week, and Sole DXB, which enhance the creative sector as a whole, and contribute to supporting startups, entrepreneurs and large and global companies.”

She pointed out that the Creative District includes the in5 design business incubator, affiliated with the TECOM Group, which provides an integrated platform to empower students and entrepreneurs. DIDI, the only university in the region entirely dedicated to design and innovation, all of which supports creativity and is reflected in the economy.

The Arab Fashion Week, in its 21st edition, achieved great success, by presenting the fashion collections of evening dresses and ready-to-wear for fall-winter 2022-2023.

The Arab Fashion Week, which was held recently, hosted more than 35 international designers from more than 20 countries in the Middle East, North Africa, Europe, Asia and the Americas in its largest edition.

Al Bastaki pointed out that this edition was marked by the first international cooperation of its kind between the world's most diverse icon "Barbie" and the Lebanese fashion designer Jean-Louis Sabji, the first Arab designer to collaborate with the international fashion icon.

She added, "Fashion Week hosted a group of prominent names in the fashion world."

Creativity and entertainment

Executive Vice President of Dubai Design District, Khadija Al Bastaki, considered that what distinguishes Dubai Design District is the experience that mixes creativity and entertainment, noting that the entertainment district in the Dubai Design District is the first of its kind along the Dubai Water Canal known as “The Block”. It is a new outdoor destination with a variety of outdoor and recreational spaces, including two basketball and volleyball courts, a skate park, outdoor sports equipment and a climbing wall, creating a distinct and integrated environment.
