Shoko Kanazawa, a calligrapher with Down's syndrome, was appointed as Tokyo Tower's cultural ambassador to spread Japanese culture from Tokyo Tower.

Shoko Kanazawa, a calligrapher born in Tokyo who suffers from Down Syndrome, is active both in Japan and overseas, working on the official posters for the Tokyo Olympics and Paralympics, and holding solo exhibitions in the United States and Brazil.

Tokyo Tower will celebrate its 65th anniversary next year, and the number of foreign tourists is expected to recover in the future due to the easing of measures to prevent the spread of the novel coronavirus.・I was appointed as a Tokyo Tower Cultural Ambassador.



At the inauguration ceremony held on the 18th, Mr. Kanazawa showed off his handiwork after receiving the letter of appointment.

On a large piece of paper measuring 1.8 meters in height and 3 meters in width, he wrote, "Let's meet at Tokyo Tower," in an easy-going handwriting, and then said, "I put my whole heart into writing energy, happiness, and excitement."



The number of visitors to Tokyo Tower has recovered to about 60% of what it was before the spread of the new corona infection, said Shin Maeda, CEO of the operating company, ``This is a place where people gather from all over the world. I think it is very meaningful for tourism to be appointed as a tourism ambassador at the timing of the restart.”
