The Syrian Directorate General of Antiquities and Museums announced a rare archaeological discovery that was found in the city of Rastan, Homs Governorate, in central Syria.

The directorate said in a statement, reported by the Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA) today, that "the archaeological discovery is a mosaic panel from the Roman era that has no parallel in the world."

The Syrian "Al-Ekhbariya" channel stated on its Facebook account that the painting was discovered by specialists in the General Directorate of Antiquities and Museums, noting that some small parts damaged as a result of excavation by terrorist gangs in order to smuggle them abroad.

Al-Rastan is located about 20 km north of Homs, and is considered one of the most famous sites in Syria where archaeological finds were discovered.
