Recently, at the Yangtze River Institute of Rare Plants (hereinafter referred to as the Institute of Botany) of the Three Gorges Group Ecological Engineering Center located on the right bank of the Three Gorges Dam, staff are conducting breeding research on endemic and rare plants in the Three Gorges Reservoir area.

The Institute of Botany was established in 2007 and is located in the Three Gorges Dam District, Yichang City, Hubei Province. It is an important part of the Three Gorges Group's participation in the protection of the Yangtze River and the ecological environmental protection system. Research work on terrestrial ecological restoration in the reservoir area.

The Institute of Botany covers an area of 1.16 million square meters and has 2 research bases, including 2 science exhibition buildings, 6 seedling sheds, 3 intelligent greenhouses, and 1 ecological greenhouse. There are 185 platform scientific research demonstration areas and plant specimens. There are 4 exhibition areas, namely the exhibition area, the plant "clone" popular science area, and the rare plant exhibition area. At the same time, there are 4 research laboratories for species protection, plant breeding, germplasm resources conservation and application, and ecological restoration.

In the past 20 years, the Institute of Botany has rescued and protected 1,300 species of endemic and rare resource plants in the Yangtze River Basin, effectively protecting the biodiversity of the Yangtze River Basin.

In addition, the institute also attaches great importance to the work of returning to the wild. A total of more than 16,000 rare plants of more than 10 species such as fragrant trees and horseshoes have been successfully returned to the wild, expanding their populations and effectively promoting the natural reproduction of seedlings returning to the wild.
