The Three Gorges area is known as the "green treasure house" and "species gene bank", with a large number of rare and unique plants.

After the construction of the Three Gorges Project, ecological restoration and rescue and protection of endangered and rare plants have become important issues in the conservation of the Yangtze River.

After years of hard work, the Yangtze River Rare Plant Research Institute of the Three Gorges Group has successfully collected and preserved more than 1,300 species of endemic, rare and endangered plants, and about 29,000 plants. All 560 species of plants affected by the Three Gorges Project have been effectively protected.

The institute has also successfully bred more than 210,000 rare plants unique to the Three Gorges, effectively protecting the species gene pool in the Three Gorges region and even the Yangtze River basin.

The picture shows the critically endangered species of cypress sparsely being effectively protected.
