The oldest dog in the world, according to Guinness World Records, has died.

The fox terrier, named Pebbles, died of natural causes at her home at the age of 22, her owner Julie Gregory wrote on Instagram.

The animal was born on March 28, 2000 in upstate New York and has lived most of its life in South Carolina.

For the past ten years, Pebbles' owners had fed the dog cat food.

Over the course of her life, Pebbles, weighing around two kilograms, gave birth to 32 puppies.

Guinness World Records named the animal the oldest dog in the world last May.

Gregory attributed the bitch's health to the care of the animal, which she took "with the greatest care".
