This is THE subject that has been shaking up the video game sphere since this Thursday: we were finally able to discover the voice of Chris Pratt in the animated film
The Super Mario Bros.
Movie
.
The decision by Illumination, the studio, to choose the
Jurassic World
actor instead of Charles Martinet, known as the character's iconic voice in games for several decades, had already sparked outrage.
But this time it's another topic that agitates fans of the Italian plumber born from the imagination of Shigeru Miyamoto.
And yes, unlike his playful incarnation, this Mario… apparently doesn't have an Italian accent.
While Illumination unveiled the first trailer for the film, scheduled for next year, we only hear one sentence from the character played by Chris Pratt.
And it sure looks like the actor kept his normal voice for the movie.
Not easy
This decision might seem innocuous, but it is screaming on social networks (which were therefore already not very inclined to give the benefit of the doubt to the star of the
Guardians of the Galaxy
).
"Hearing Chris Pratt say he worked hard on Mario's voice when he has the exact same voice as Chris Pratt is the funniest thing in the world," posted one tweeter.
Another reposted a screenshot of the animated film, where we see Mario making a face, captioning: “Me when I listen to Chris Pratt's voice coming out of Mario's mouth”.
The actor, for his part, does not seem affected by the “controversy”.
He shared the trailer on Instagram, which he is apparently very proud of.
“The official trailer for
The Super Mario Bros.
Movie
is finally here!!!
After playing the games for years as a kid (and adult), I'm excited to introduce Mario to you all!
Have fun !
“, he commented.
The film, written by Aaron Horvath and Michael Jelenic, the wacky creators of the animated series
Teen Titans Go!
, is scheduled for a theatrical release in France on March 29, 2023.
