A forty-seven-year-old who murdered a man for a loot of 250 euros at Hamburg's Michel was sentenced to life imprisonment on Friday.

It was a classic robbery, said presiding judge Jessica Koerner on Friday.

The drug addict is to be housed in a rehab facility.

The verdict is not yet legally binding.

According to the accused, the two men had met in a bar the night before the crime.

According to the district court, the Italian, who had money problems, killed the 62-year-old in the early morning of March 28 with a knife in the neck.

He then took the victim's wallet.

The chamber convicted the trained confectioner of murder and robbery resulting in death.

The defendant admitted to the court that he had fatally injured the 62-year-old.

But it was more of an accident, he didn't want to kill him, the man described his version of what happened.

According to the court, this representation was "completely absurd".
