Dubai Culture and Arts Authority "Dubai Culture" has announced the formation of a committee to watch the performances of theatrical groups participating in the Dubai Festival for Youth Theater 2022, which will be held from 19 to 26 October at the Culture and Science Symposium in Dubai.
The committee includes three members: the actor and director Khalifa Al-Khalifa Al-Yamahi as the chairman of the committee, the young actor and director Hassan Youssef Al-Balushi as a member, and the Syrian director and actor Raed Al-Dalati, as a member. This raises the level of competition between teams.
The committee evaluated the participating teams in the festival to make technical observations on theatrical works, and to supervise their evaluation, to ensure that they reached maturity and the content and directorial vision of the festival's standards were appropriate.
Fatima Al Jallaf, Acting Director of the Performing Arts Department at Dubai Culture, stressed the importance of the viewing committee’s role in guiding participants to the right paths in terms of theatrical elements, and providing advice to young creators in order to encourage them to compete creatively and motivate teams to develop their performances intellectually and technically. It is in line with the festival's goal to provide a unique platform to enhance and refine young national theater skills, and to produce a promising generation capable of completing the march started by the great Emirati playwrights.
Al Jallaf added: “Based on the outcomes of this year’s festival forum, the viewing committee is distinguished by the youth component in it, and we are confident that it will make every effort to encourage our young talents to continue developing their capabilities, and will leave a tangible impact in enhancing the experiences of the new generation of Emirati theater artists, thus contributing to Establishing a strong theatrical sector, which supports the cultural sector in the UAE and the region in general, and the development of Emirati theater work to keep pace with the world.”In order to preserve the professional nature of the festival, which is based on credibility and integrity, the viewing committee relies, in its evaluation of the performances, on a set of criteria set by the festival’s organizing committee in advance, the most prominent of which is that the general form of the theatrical script is homogeneous and coherent, and that the idea of the show is clear and understandable, embodies youth issues, and is distinguished With originality and creativity, and that the idea or issue fits with the customs and traditions of the Emirates while staying away from issues that raise suspicion, whether directly or indirectly, as well as the collective harmony of the talk show between the actors, and the employment of creativity and innovation in directing the theatrical show, in addition to standards for decoration and fashion. lighting, makeup, etc.
Based on these criteria, the texts and titles committee for this year selected six texts that touch on the concerns and issues of the audience, including: “Story” written by Meera Al Muhairi (Dubai Al Ahli Theatre), “Dobie” written by Muhammad Saleh Al Sidi (Yas Theatre), “To Whom It May Concern.” Written by Muhammad Saleh Al-Sidi (Kalba Theatre), “The Frame” by Saud Al Zarooni (Modern Theatre), “Akher Khabar” written by Ahmed Al Majed (Zayed Theater for Talents and Youth), and “When the Curtain is Raised” by Abdullah Al Muhairi (Dubai National Theatre).
