There have been many sightings of stingrays in the canals that run through the city of Kobe, and since they have poisonous stingers at the base of their tails, local fisheries cooperatives are considering measures such as setting up nets.

In the "Hyogo Canal" that flows through Kobe city, stingrays have been witnessed one after another by people involved in the canal and local residents since this summer, and there were days when they were swimming in groups of more than a dozen.

This ray has a body length of about 1 meter and is considered to be a ``Narutobiei'' that lives mainly in the Ariake Sea and the Seto Inland Sea.

The area around the Hyogo Canal, which was once a gathering place for timber, was lined with many factories during the high economic growth period, and the water quality deteriorated. is believed to have entered the canal.

On the other hand, the clams raised for environmental learning by local elementary school students can be eaten, and the poisonous needle at the base of the tail is dangerous, so the fishery cooperative is considering measures such as setting up nets.

Suijiro Itotani, president of the Hyogo Fisheries Cooperative Association, said, "It's hard to eat the clams we raise, but safety is our top priority, so if the haunting continues, we'd like to consider measures to prevent damage." I was.
