Nearly 9 million TGV, Ouigo and Intercités tickets for the Christmas holidays from December 11 to January 2 went on sale this Wednesday at 6 a.m., reports

The opportunity for travelers to obtain the lowest prices, while the crowds in stations promise to be just as important this winter as last summer.

The SNCF site and the SNCF Connect application quickly displayed error messages this morning, which would have hindered the purchases of many users, explains RTL.

According to the SNCF, there were thus nearly 100,000 connections per minute between 6 a.m. and 8 a.m. and around thirty tickets sold per second.

“We expected it, but the crowds were 10 times greater than last year”, highlighted the operator, which in total put on sale one million more tickets than at Christmas 2021 to prevent a recurrence of the shortages of last summer.

Towards a price spike?

If this high influx on the reservation sites were to continue, ticket prices could nevertheless quickly climb, since fares increase as the trains fill up.

To avoid the highest prices, travelers are therefore invited to choose weekday departure and return dates as much as possible.

The 4.1 million holders of the Carte Avantage at 49 euros per year can also benefit from several advantages, such as a 30% reduction on TGV and Intercités trains and capped prices.

Finally, the SNCF continues to develop its offers at reduced prices.

The frequency has thus been increased on the Intercités Nantes-Lyon line and twelve new destinations are available in Ouigo Grande Vitesse, such as Brest (Finistère), Perpignan (Pyrénées-Orientales) and La Rochelle (Charente-Maritime).
