A test-ride event for the media was held in Yamanashi Prefecture on the 5th for the linear Chuo Shinkansen, which has been improved for commercial operation and reaches a maximum speed of 500 km/h.

Approximately 100 members of the press participated in the test ride event, and rode an improved test vehicle that JR Tokai has been conducting running tests since last year at the Yamanashi Experimental Center in Tsuru City, Yamanashi Prefecture.

After that, the test vehicle traveled back and forth on the 42.8-kilometer Yamanashi Maglev Test Line connecting Fuefuki City, Yamanashi Prefecture and Uenohara City at a maximum speed of 500 km/h, allowing participants to experience the comfort of the improved vehicle.

According to JR Tokai, the improved train will reduce air resistance by about 13% by improving the shape of the tip of the conventional train, and will also reduce power consumption and noise.

JR Tokai plans to hold a linear Chuo Shinkansen experience ride event for the general public from the 25th to the 27th of this month.
