If some are worried about not being able to heat their homes next winter, Dominique has other concerns: at 61, the unfortunate woman lives in her (small) car and eats sandwiches, for lack of means.

Victim of bad luck (her mother died at the start of 2020 and her husband eight months later), Dominique was offered emergency rehousing... but she refused it because she did not want to separate, even temporarily, from his dog Loulou (who now shares his sad fate).

Eleven months to obtain social housing

It must be said that in Finistère – where Dominique “lives” – the average waiting time to obtain social housing is 11 months.

Contacted by Brut, social landlords in the region said they understood that such a delay "may seem long".

But they add that they are facing “a sharp increase in housing seekers, a housing crisis due to the health and economic crisis and the rise in property prices in the private sector”.

Suffice to say that Dominique and Loulou are not about to sleep in the warm.
