• BEAUTY Is it effective to take hydrolyzed collagen for knee pain?

  • EMOTIONS Can cosmetics make you happier?

They say that if they are inspired by you, you will be doing something right.

That's what Mo Constantine must think when he hears about

the new trend of solid shampoo

.

He invented it, inadvertently, 35 years ago.

"It's taken us three decades to become a sudden trend," he joked.

The truth is that more and more firms

are joining the sustainable wave

and creating their own: Yves Rocher, Valquer Laboratories, Freshly Cosmetics, Klorane, Nuxe, Clarins, L'Occitane, Original Remedies... And so we could continue with a long and so on.

Even for dogs, from the Petuxe brand thinking about pets and recently launched.

But the merit of the co-founder of Lush is that hers was the first.

And by chance...

THIS IS HOW THE PILL WAS CREATED

Mo Constantine, the creator of the bar shampoo and co-founder of Lush.

This enemy of plastics emerged in 1987 together with the cosmetic chemist Stan Krysztal.

The tandem worked on

a new soap

in their laboratory in Poole (England).

Some tests with synthetic detergent noodles that looked like worms.

That's why Krysztal nicknamed it the worm soap.

"The idea was to manually press it so they could shape it into whatever shape they wanted. Mo suggested swapping the synthetic noodles for some surfactant needles, thus getting

perfectly pressed round pills

," says Lush's communication department.

When Mark Constantine, trichologist and co-founder of Lush with Mo, his other half, entered the laboratory and discovered the product, he realized that what they had created was not a soap, but a new and revolutionary product,

the much-replicated solid shampoo today.

THE SAVINGS THAT IT SUPPLIES

The British Lush has a dozen solid shampoos that cover different needs.

But what is so special about this appetizing French

macaroon

-like soap to be so replicated?

It is estimated that

120,000 million units of cosmetic packaging

are produced each year , most of them single-use, and that only between 9 and 12% of plastics are recycled worldwide, a figure that rises to 25% in the world. case of Spain, where we are more disciplined in this regard.

By not needing a boat, the manufacture of

tons of plastic

is avoided .

Specifically, the British Lush alone has sold 57.6 million solid shampoos between 2005 and 2021. "This is equivalent to

4,275 tons of plastic

saved on the planet. Or what is the same, 167 million plastic bottles that have been left behind. to manufacture".

A SOLID TREND

Peluxe has just launched solid shampoo for pets.

From that erroneous pill, it has gone on to a dozen shampoos that cover all the needs of the hair.

To hydrate it, to have more volume, for a sensitive scalp, to balance oily hair... "Many times

the packaging of a product represents 40% or 50% of its price

. Which means that by eliminating this cost, the product can contain even better ingredients. The idea that by 2050 there will be more plastic than fish in the ocean is more than enough reason to try and empty your toiletry bag of unnecessary packaging," says Mo Constantine.

  • When you finish your shampoo you do not keep a container to throw away, avoiding

    generating waste

    .

  • It is an advantage for traveling profiles, who do not have to worry about the size or the milliliters

    of hand luggage

    .

  • They also do not contain synthetic preservatives.

  • Resource savings.

    "A truck full of

    solid shampoo tablets

is equivalent to the same washes as 15 trucks of liquid product."

A single pill lasts between 80 and 90 hair washes.

As for the mode of use, you can choose to rub it between your hands and apply them to the wet scalp by massaging or rubbing directly with the pill.

Then just rinse with plenty of water.

And

leave the tablet in the open air to dry

for the next use.
