A big boom should be heard in Brest this Wednesday morning.

Between 8 a.m. and 1 p.m., the group of demining divers from the Atlantic will indeed proceed with the demining of a section of torpedo of 300 kilos equivalent TNT in the harbour.

The explosive device was discovered in June in the bay of Roscanvel, only a few days after the discovery in the same area of ​​two English bottom mines of the MK-6 type.

These two mines of 520 kilos TNT equivalent each had been fired in the harbor in mid-September, causing an earthquake of magnitude 2.6.

The torpedo section was also to be cleared on this occasion but the device had not exploded.

All navigation and nautical activity prohibited

Party therefore postponed this Wednesday with a new scheduled mine clearance operation.

To prevent any risk of damage to persons and property, the maritime prefecture of the Atlantic has issued an order to prohibit any navigation within a radius of 840 meters around the counter-mine point and any nautical activity within a radius of two kilometers. .


“In the event of a postponement, the operation would take place on Friday October 7, 2022 at the same times and with the same security measures”, specifies the maritime prefecture of the Atlantic.
