From the head of Taocha Canal on the east bank of Danjiangkou Reservoir, a canal of clear water and blue waves winds to the north, crossing the Yangtze River and Huaihe River, crossing the Yellow River, and following the Taihang River. In the long-distance trek of 1,432 kilometers, it goes all the way north, nourishing Henan, Hebei, Beijing and Tianjin.

In Jiaozuo, Henan, which is 560 kilometers away from the canal head, why is it the only city that passes through the central urban area of the middle route of the South-to-North Water Diversion Project?

Recently, the reporter followed the "Miracle China Tianhe Dreams" interview group to Jiaozuo, Henan. Wang Dong, chairman of the city's South-to-North Water Diversion Construction and Development Co., Ltd., explained this in detail.

According to Wang Dong, Jiaozuo City is located at the southern foot of the Taihang Mountains. The terrain is high in the north and low in the south, high in the west and low in the east.

The middle route of the South-to-North Water Diversion Project does not intersect with all existing rivers, and flows all the way like a water pipe.

If it is placed on the north side of the city, the existing ground needs to be dug down 90 to 100 meters. If the slope protection is set at 1:2, a large amount of land will be acquired, occupying urban space.

If it is placed on the south side of the city, an overhanging river will be built higher than the highway.

In order to realize the artesian flow of the South-to-North Water Transfer Project, it can only pass through the middle of the city.
