Treasures and collectibles, unique jewelry from the Middle East and India covering a period spanning more than 1,000 years, and a collection of contemporary paintings, presented by Sotheby's in the Dubai International Financial Center, in an art exhibition of works that will be auctioned in more than one month in the British capital, London.

The exhibition, entitled "Arts of the 20th Century.. the Middle East", which opened yesterday and will run until next Friday, features a variety of artworks that include styles developed during the 20th and 21st centuries, across the region, as well as paintings, sculptures and ceramics. He added that there are works of four orientalist artists, who presented their creativity after experiencing life in Arab streets and inside homes, and depicted mosques and landmarks, and embodied them in realistic paintings.

He pointed out that interest in Islamic arts is not limited to collecting enthusiasts, but rather international museums or even those in the region, considering that one of the most important things that the exhibition presents during this week is the pieces that are related to the history of Iran, and are among the museum pieces.

Among the recent works in the exhibition is a painting by the Palestinian artist Samia Halaby, from 1982, entitled: “The Wind of the Sun on Planet Earth… Early Winter,” and belongs to the “Autumn Leaves and City Buildings” group, which is inspired by the dramatic seasons in Connecticut, and is characterized by its vibrant colors. Lively, and as it highlights the tendency of Samia Halaby for geometric compositions.

While the work of the artist Aref Al Rayes, inspired by the desert, takes the audience to the beauty and serenity of the desert, as the artist documents the early hours of dawn.

Within the contemporary works, the exhibition presents a work by the Lebanese artist Jamil Malaeb, entitled “Painting of Jerusalem”, which was drawn by the artist as an expression of his commitment to humanitarian issues and his desire to present global symbols and landmarks.

Emirati artist Mohammed Kazem's collection "Without Sound", in which he embodies through pastel colors, his exploration of natural light, movement and sound during different periods of the day.

The exhibition includes manuscripts from the Islamic world, including a Qur’an manuscript in the Kufic script dating back to 750 AD, and the simplified decoration on the text focuses on the typical that spread in the first period of the Kufic Qur’ans in the eighth century AD.

Sotheby's also presents in its exhibition in Dubai, a collection of precious jewelry, including a pair of earrings made of pearls and diamonds in the shape of a crescent moon from India, dating back to the late 18th century.

Next to it is a bazoband (armguard) made of emeralds, gold, and set with diamonds.

It also displays a belt encrusted with precious stones from northern India in the 19th century, and it was in the collection of the Maharani Jindan Kaur (1817 - 1863), the wife of Maharaja Ranjit Sen (1780 - 1839).

The exhibition includes a group of paintings by orientalist artists from Turkey, North Africa and the Middle East, which they painted after coming from America and Europe to the lands that were known in the 18th and 19th centuries as “the Orient”.
