The administrative court of Marseille has just rendered its deliberation: the appeal to cancel the building permit for the extension of Nice airport has been rejected.

In a press release, the Citizens Collective 06 sums up this decision in one sentence: “Global warming has therefore won”.

For more than two and a half years, this collective as well as the Associative Collective for Ecological Achievements (Capre) 06 and France Nature Environnement (FNE) 06 have been fighting against this project.

“We are angry and very worried about the future, reacted Airy Chrétien, member of the collective.

No one is holding back the climate emergency and the government's demands for sobriety”.

He then expressed his fear for "the other airport extension projects in France, such as Lille or Marseille".

Two months to appeal

The extension of terminal 2 at Nice airport should allow the construction of an additional 25,000 m2 to accommodate 3.5 million more passengers.

a fortnight ago, the spokesman for the airports of the Côte d'Azur had promised that this work would not lead to the creation of "new runways" or more "parking spaces" and that "nothing would be done to bring in more planes".

He assured that he could not quantify the CO2 emissions generated by the extension of the terminal.

The Citizens Collective 06 denounced for its part, “a climaticide project which will emit 200,000 tonnes of CO2 more per year”.

The associations have two months to appeal.
