With roughly 325 million copies sold, it is the world's biggest sports game.

But Friday's launch of Fifa 23 puts an end to a 30-year success story.

The game manufacturer EA and the international football association Fifa have not been able to agree financially, which means that the game is forced to change its name until next year.

In addition, it is uncertain whether the soccer World Cup, to which Fifa owns the rights, will remain in the game - which will henceforth be called EA Sports FC.

Fifa should, according to the New York Times, have wanted to double the 150 million dollars (roughly SEK 1.5 billion) that they received from EA Sports during the last ten-year period.

In addition, the football association is said to have wanted to put its brand on more of EA Sports' products, something the gaming company did not agree to.

"Many buy the game for the name"

In addition to changing names and tournaments, it is unclear what the change will lead to for the players.

- We don't really know much, but you can be afraid that it will get worse, says Simon Nystedt, who won gold in the Eallsvenskan in Fifa with his IFK Gothenburg.

He believes that the name change could mean problems for the sale of the game.

- I think there are many people who buy the game because of the name Fifa.

Now it becomes more vague.
