Jordanian film competes for "Oscar"

Jordan has nominated the feature film "Farha", directed by Darren Salam, to officially represent the Kingdom in the 95th Academy Awards, to compete in the international feature film category for 2023.

According to a press release issued by the Royal Film Commission of Jordan yesterday, Thursday, an independent committee consisting of 6 members - all Jordanian experts and professionals concerned with the audio-visual sector - chose the movie "Farah", which was filmed entirely in Jordan in 2019, and as the official body authorized in the Kingdom to present For films to be nominated for the Oscars, the Authority organizes the process, including the formation of a selection committee of persons independent of it.

Last August, the authority announced the opening of submissions for feature films to be nominated for the Academy Awards for the year 2023.

Inspired by true events, the film tells the story of 14-year-old Farha, when she is confined to a small room with the outbreak of war in her hometown in Palestine in 1948, alone in her abandoned village. Alive.

The film's cast includes: Ashraf Barhoum, Ali Suleiman, Samira Al-Asir, Firas Taiba, Majd Eid, and the rising actress Karam Taher in her first acting experience, and the film is produced by Dima Azer and Aya Jardaneh.

Regarding the selection of the movie “Farha”, the committee’s statement stated, “With distinctive grace and elegance, “Farha” succeeds in presenting a unique cinematic perspective on a topic that constitutes an emotional burden that has long aroused the curiosity of Arab filmmakers, making it a film of high value in form and content, combining its narrative style. The film has toured more than 40 film festivals around the world, having its world premiere at the prestigious Toronto International Film Festival, winning Best Euro-Mediterranean Film on Women's Issues/EU Award, Best Director and Best Actress at the Aswan Women's Film Festival. 2022.
