An entire night devoted to culture, with extended hours and ephemeral installations scattered around the city: this is the bet made by the City of Paris in 2002 under the impetus of its then mayor, Bertrand Delanoë.

The goal?

Make culture accessible to everyone, for one night.

Two decades later, Nuit Blanche celebrates its 20th anniversary with a program that leaves room for magic and the exploration of different artistic disciplines.

Dance, singing, contemporary or more classical art, circus arts, performances… On the night of October 1 to 2, the entire capital will vibrate to the rhythm of culture.

The 2022 edition of the Nuit Blanche was led by Kitty Hartl, colorful artistic director, eager for pioneering artists whom she has been programming for more than twenty years in various festivals, from Nantes to Paris.

The co-creator of Cabaret New Burlesque wanted to make this 2022 edition “a popular and poetic event”.

“It's a moment of encounters, of sharing, where you meet friends and where you discover works taken out of their usual context.

It's an invitation to take another look at the city, staged differently,” she explained a few weeks ago during a press conference.

Fun facilities throughout the capital

For this 2022 edition, the artistic director Kitty Hartl was inspired by the work "Le Jardin des Délices" by the painter Jérôme Bosch to offer an immersive and original program.

"I see Paris as a large exuberant garden, invested with unusual scenes, populated by rare forms and crossed by intriguing creatures," she explained.

Among these rare forms, we can find on the facade and the forecourt of the Center Pompidou the installation of Stéphanie Lüning, entitled

Island of Foam

: the piazza Beaubourg will look like a multicolored foam party.

For a poetic stroll, the thirty artists from the Ateliers d'artistes de Belleville take over the Petite Ceinture in the 20th arrondissement through a journey of luminous works under the theme of the "Indian Summer".

At the Climate Academy, a few steps from the Hôtel de Ville, visual artist Pierre Ardouvin will bring down a purple rain, a nostalgic and apocalyptic tribute to Prince's

Purple Rain

in the light of climate change.

Near the Molitor swimming pool in the 16th arrondissement, the artist Annie Sperling will present

Une Balançoire pour Molitor

, a sound and light installation enhanced by the neo-burlesque performer Kitten de Ville.

On the forecourt of the Town Hall,

Specter

, a huge luminous and sonorous white cube by Mariona Benedito and Cube.bz will play on the idea of Paris as a city of light.

And finally, to celebrate this twentieth anniversary with dignity, the pastry chef Pierre Hermé will offer the Town Hall the tasting of a gigantic birthday cake all in macaroons...

Shows and party venues

Still in Kitty Hartl's program, we find the troupe she co-created, the Cabaret New Burlesque, which will perform for free at the Théâtre du Châtelet every hour, from 8 p.m. to 1 a.m.

A show combining stripping, humor… and glamour.

On the side of the Canopée des Halles, the energy will be more contemporary: from 8 p.m. United States, sister of voguing), will perform alongside the National Choreographic Center - Ballet de Lorraine.

Among the places that will host the Nuit Blanche, there is the Transfo, or Louvel-Tessier Cultural Center, located between Goncourt and Belleville in the 10th arrondissement.

Attached to Emmaüs Solidarité, the Transfo is a cultural space set up within an emergency accommodation centre, and offers access to culture for everyone, often free or at low cost.

For October 1, the Transfo welcomes photojournalist Jacob Khrist, who has worked for more than a decade on festive environments.

For young and old

It is also an opportunity to introduce some unusual places to the little ones, from the best known museums to more

underground

spaces .

Many cultural places thus offer a special program at the end of the afternoon to delight families.

In our selection of places to see with the family, there is 59 Rivoli, an artist's squat present in the heart of Paris, which offers for this Nuit Blanche "Les délices du 59": from 6 p.m., visitors will be able to discover the place and the thirty artists occupying the space, and will be able to stroll between the works.

For an evening all in music, from 6 p.m., the Philharmonie de Paris welcomes the youngest for a "Night of the little ones", where children and parents can discover a new facet of music.

On the program, concerts drawn, DJ set to jiggle or to see the plants move, musical fables and performances.

If a large part of the Nuit Blanche 2022 route takes place in the center of Paris, the suburbs are not left out!

Also in Saint-Denis, a night show by the Transe Express company at Georges-Valbon Park will welcome the whole family.

In Saint-Ouen, at the Mains d'Oeuvres space, the "Infinite Night" will host the Cabaret of the Girls of Joy by Juliette Dragon and the Collectif Machine Molle for a night of celebration.
