British experts warn of a "fatal flu" next winter

British health experts have warned of a "lethal strain" of the influenza virus that is currently spreading around the world, noting that it may pose a greater threat to public health than Corona during the coming winter.

The UK's Health Security Agency said that Covid-19 will remain a major challenge for authorities, but the low levels of remaining immunity to influenza in the general population are worrying.

The agency expected the flu and other respiratory diseases to spread this winter, after they were largely tackled through closures and social distancing during the Corona epidemic.

She explained that there are strong indications that we may face the risk of the spread of influenza on a large scale, as levels of natural immunity decreased due to the lack of mixing during the past three winters with the increase in the spread of Covid 19.

Experts said that the H3N2 influenza strain causes severe illness, especially for elderly or poor health.

They explained that children do not have any natural immunity against influenza, as they should receive a vaccination against this disease.

In the same context, researchers warned of the risk of infection with corona and influenza at the same time, which is a possibility and has already been monitored.
