In 2012, the total collection of public libraries nationwide was 688.27 million volumes (pieces) and the number of reading seats was 735,000.
By the end of 2021, the total collection of public libraries nationwide was 1,261.78 million volumes (pieces), and the number of reading seats was 1.344 million.

In 2021, the national average library building area per 10,000 people will reach 135.5 square meters, an increase of 73.3% over 2012; the per capita public library collection will be 0.89 volumes, an increase of 74.5% over 2012.

In the past ten years, the Law of the People's Republic of China on the Protection of Public Cultural Services and the Law of the People's Republic of China on Public Libraries have been promulgated successively, and the legal system of public services has become more complete.
National reading promotion activities have been carried out in abundance, and the service efficiency of public libraries across the country has been steadily improved.
In 2021, the total circulation of public libraries nationwide will reach 746.14 million, an increase of 71.8% over 2012;
