Planned Parenthood on Wednesday launched a new website on contraception and abortion to fight online misinformation, at a time when the right to abortion is questioned in several countries.

This site (www.ivg-contraception-sexualites.org) aims to “improve access to accurate information on sexual health issues,” indicates Family Planning.

“It will provide essential information for making one's own choices in terms of sexual and reproductive health,” said Sarah Durocher, co-president of Family Planning, during a press conference.

A less visible site

The site will highlight in particular the toll-free number of the association "IVG, contraception, sexualities" (0.800.08.11.11).

It will be supplemented at the beginning of 2023 by an online chat, intended in particular for young people.

Family Planning launched this platform because its services are less visible on the internet than those of other anti-abortion organizations, he says.

"The anti-choice and anti-abortion sites are very efficient, very well placed on search engines, they make their own toll-free number visible", describes Charlotte Billaud, coordinator of the toll-free number carried by Family Planning.

These sites are “not openly anti-abortion” and thus manage to mislead readers, according to her.

"If we are attentive when reading the testimonies, we see that they participate in the stigmatization of abortion and the guilt of women," she adds.

Fight against the "anti"

For Anne-Cécile Mailfert, president of the Women's Foundation, which financed the creation of the site, the anti-choice movements "know very well how to use these digital tools".

And their "mobilizations pay off", he underlines.

She mentions in particular the reversal of the situation in the United States, where the Supreme Court revoked in June a judgment guaranteeing the right to abortion.

Since then, several American states have strongly restricted this right.

"On this international day for the right to abortion, let us be collectively lucid, the threat of a step backwards has never been so strong", declared the Minister Delegate for Gender Equality, Isabelle Rome, present at the press conference.
