• The first floating wind farm should include around twenty wind turbines, off the coast of southern Brittany.

  • It will be located in the eastern part of the selected area, "more than 20 kilometers from the Pointe des Poulains de Belle-Ile".

  • This future park of 250 Megawatts, equivalent to the electricity consumption of 150,000 inhabitants, should be commissioned by 2030.

We already knew that it would be located off southern Brittany, in an area south of the island of Groix and west of Belle-Ile.

But the precise location of the first floating wind farm was not yet known, being the subject of fierce discussions.

The Government has just unveiled it on Tuesday.

The park, which should include around twenty wind turbines, will thus be located in the eastern part of the selected area, “more than 20 kilometers from the Pointe des Poulains de Belle-Ile”, indicate in a joint press release Agnès Pannier-Runacher , Minister for Energy Transition, and Hervé Berville, Secretary of State for the Sea.

"This choice was made taking into account the lessons of the public debate and the additional consultations carried out until recent weeks, in particular with local elected officials, NGOs and the professional fishing sector", continues the press release.

The name of the operator revealed in the spring

In May 2021, a call for tenders was launched to find the operator of this future 250 megawatt park, i.e. the equivalent of the electricity consumption of 150,000 inhabitants, which should be commissioned by 2030. Ten candidates have been pre-selected for a competitive dialogue which is nearing completion, with offers to be submitted in early 2023. The winner will be designated by the Government in the spring.

On the two Breton islands, the future floating wind farm is not only making people happy.

On Saturday, the associations Les guardians du large and Horizon groisillon, both opposed to the project, will also hold an information meeting on the subject in Groix.
