In addition to the modern and advanced weapons that major companies are racing to unveil and display at the International Hunting and Equestrian Exhibition 2022, whose activities will continue in its 19th session at the National Exhibition Center in Abu Dhabi until the second of next October, the event is witnessing a prominent presence of traditional and heritage weapons, such as daggers, knives and swords, through a number of One of the local and international companies that strive to capture the attention of the public with diverse products and unique pieces.

Among the national companies that display hand-made weapons and heritage products, is the "Khanjar" company, which displays the products of the "Khanjar House Foundation", which was founded by heritage researcher Abdullah Thani Rashid Al-Matrooshi, and is located in the Al Fahidi area of ​​Dubai.

The official in the company's pavilion, Abdullah Ibrahim Al-Salami, told «Emirates Today» that the current session of the exhibition witnesses the first participation of the company in a special pavilion, after it had participated in previous sessions within the pavilion of the Committee of the Festivals and Cultural and Heritage Programs in Abu Dhabi, noting that the pavilion brings together Various products manufactured by Bait Al Khanjar Corporation, including daggers, swords, sticks, Mandoos, Dalal and Rababa, in addition to the traditional chimneys (incense burners) that were produced in the recent period.

Al-Salami explained that one of the most prominent exhibits in the pavilion is an Emirati (Qurayshi) suit, made of silver decorated with gold, and studded with a piece of diamond, as a kilogram of silver was used in making it, and its price is 25 thousand dirhams.

The exhibits also include silver daggers, which represent copies of daggers used by a number of UAE sheikhs, all of which are handmade, and the manufacturing period of one piece takes from 20 to 30 days.

The pavilion also displays the Al-Razfa sword, which is used in traditional folk dances. It is made of silver and leather, and some of it is plated with gold.

Regarding the prices of the exhibits, Al-Salami stated that the daggers start from 8000 dirhams, and the most expensive dagger is 30,000 dirhams.

The price of the sword is 20,000 dirhams, and the auctioneer is sold at about the same price.

He pointed out that the exhibits include traditional Emirati chimneys, made by hand of clay, in the same way they were made in the past, and the price of one piece is 500 dirhams.

From Turkey, the "Bosat" company, in its first participation in the Abu Dhabi International Hunting and Equestrian Exhibition, displays a large group of daggers, knives and swords, as well as various leather goods, all of which are handmade, as Ihsan Goulash explained to "Emirates Today".

Among the most prominent exhibits in the company's pavilion are four daggers that were specially manufactured for display at the event. They are made of silver, olive wood and walnuts, and decorated with mother-of-pearl. The image of the founding father, the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, may God rest his soul, was engraved on it. The price of the large dagger is 15 thousand dirhams, and the small one is 8000. The pavilion also displays daggers with various handles, including a handle made of mammoth tusks, as well as daggers and Damascene swords, the price of which is 10,000 dirhams, and other swords engraved with Quranic verses.

Goulash emphasized that each of these exhibits are unique pieces, made by hand, and there are no other copies of them.

Environmentally friendly

One of the Emirati companies participating in the Abu Dhabi Hunting and Equestrian Company is the Al Ghail Handicraft Company, which displays a wide range of hand-made knives in its pavilion, which are used for hunting, trips and camping, as well as for home use.

The founder of the company, Ahmed Rashid Saeed Al Mazrouei, told "Emirates Today", who is participating for the second year in the exhibition, that his company, which he founded three years ago, specializes in household items, and the manufacture of manual knives of various kinds, including those used in hunting, noting that The products displayed in the pavilion were sold out for a whole year, especially for this important event.

He added that the products are made of types of metals divided into stainless steel and carbon steel, each of which includes several types, while the prices start from 200 dirhams, and may reach 10 thousand, according to the difficulty of the design, the period of work in its implementation, and the metal used in the manufacture of the piece.

The designs that fall under the damask style are the most expensive among the exhibits, because the execution of one piece may take about two months.

He noted that the price of the knife also depends on the design of the fist or hand and the materials used in its manufacture, pointing out that some of them are made of animal horns and bones, such as the horn of a mammoth or deer, or the horns and bones of other rare animals, and there are fists to which pieces of gold or silver are added, Showing one of his knives, which features a handle made of the bones of the endangered gaur, an animal that looks like a bull, but is wild, and lives in Central Asia and India.

He stated that these bones are obtained from the reserves in which this animal lives, where they sell its bones after its death for large sums, due to its scarcity and the prohibition of hunting it.

He stressed that he is keen to obtain animal horns and bones in sustainable ways, in accordance with environmental conservation laws, such as using deer horns from those that are changed every year, obtained from nature reserves or imported from abroad.

Challenges

The founder of “Al Ghail” company, Ahmed Rashid Saeed Al Mazrouei, said about the challenges that his project faced, most notably the lack of equipment required in this industry. The second was how to market his products, which prompted him to move towards Instagram marketing.
