King Charles III has a new coat of arms.

The importance of this announcement may not be obvious to French people, who got rid of the monarchy several centuries ago, but across the Channel, it is a small event that is undoubtedly more heartening than the rest of the information.

The morale of the British is as low as their currency following the announcements of the new Prime Minister, Liz Truss.

The "College of Arms" proposed several drawings to the monarch, who finally chose the image that will represent him on his official documents, in government services, but also on the post boxes of the Royal Mail.

We find the initials of the king (CR, for Charles Rex, king in Latin), as well as the number three in Roman characters, therefore "CIIIR", above which appears the royal crown.

This coat of arms will now have to replace all those of his mother Elizabeth II used in the country.

Not immediately

The process is not immediate, as the BBC points out.

It will not be a question, for example, of replacing all the mailboxes at once, but all those which will be put into service from this year will have to wear this new coat of arms.

Among the other changes expected with the arrival in Buckingham of a new monarch: the Bank of England has announced the introduction, in 2024, of new banknotes with the portrait of Charles III.

The image should be revealed before the end of the year.

New coins will also be in circulation, although no date has been announced yet.

Obviously, all old coins and banknotes will remain valid.

There are approximately 27 billion coins left bearing the image of Elizabeth II.
