China News Service, Beijing, September 28 (Wei Xianghui) "Cloud! Cloud! Cloud!" Gao Yang kept praying in his heart.

He is a senior engineer at the Weather Modification Center of the China Meteorological Administration and is often regarded as someone who can sow rain through clouds.

This summer, high temperature and drought occurred in many parts of the country, and Gao Yang completed a two-way journey between man and nature.

Long drought looking forward to the rain, waiting for a cloud made of rain

41 days - this is the total number of consecutive days that the Central Meteorological Observatory issued high temperature warnings this year.

From July 21 to August 30, the high temperature and heat wave swept across the Yangtze River Basin in China, which had a serious impact on the life and production of local people.

On August 13, Gao Yang received the task to go to Xiangyang, Hubei to perform artificial rain enhancement operations. On August 19, he rushed to Chongqing until September 3.

The shadow work needs to find a part in the cloud with suitable temperature and abundant supercooled water conditions.

"I am also very anxious. Even if I see a cloud, I want to fly over." Gao Yang said that at that time he was like a hunter who was eager to find his prey. Through the detection equipment he carried, he searched for a suitable location and timing in the cloud. .

On August 29, when working in Chongqing, after arriving at the target area, the plane was abnormally turbulent, but this also showed that the operating conditions were very suitable.

"It was like a happy child at the time." Gao Yang informed the ground command center of the information obtained through the air-ground communication system in a timely manner, and notified the captain of the new operation plan to ensure that the operation could be carried out in the most scientific route.

After 2 hours, the task was successfully completed, and he finally breathed a sigh of relief.

However, after walking and talking in bumpy conditions for a long time, Gao Yang's stomach was already overturned.

"After the end, he collapsed on the plane seat, vomited violently with a plastic bag in his hand, and kept sweating on his body." But he said, his heart was very warm, "I know that artificial rain enhancement is closely related to people's livelihood."

Always on the go, go wherever you need it

Gao Yang's job is to protect the shadow plane.

In addition to maintaining and calibrating various airborne equipment in airports and laboratories, it is also necessary to frequently perform various emergency support and major scientific experiments outside the flight mission.

"Emergency support work is to leave as soon as you say it. No matter where you are or what the situation is in front of you, as long as you give an order, you will rush to the scene as soon as possible."

This year, Gao Yang's wife had just completed an operation before the work of increasing rainfall and drought relief in the south and urgently needed him to be comforted and taken care of at home.

But after receiving the order, Gao Yang settled his wife who was recovering from a serious illness and two ignorant daughters, packed up maintenance equipment and tools, and led the team to the outfield of the plane that day.

From September 2020 to March 2022, Gao Yang went to the Xinjiang Production Corps to carry out a one-and-a-half-year aid work in Xinjiang according to the organization.

During the period, he compiled the "14th Five-Year Development Plan for Weather Modification of Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps" in combination with the actual situation of the Corps, and organized relevant departments to carry out artificial weather modification operations dozens of times in the upper reaches of Hutubi, Xinjiang, in conjunction with the shadow department of Xinjiang Autonomous Region. , reducing the impact of precipitation in the Hutubi disaster-stricken area and relieving the pressure of disaster relief.

"Aiding Xinjiang has brought me a transformation and made me stronger. In the following work, I will continue to carry forward the spirit of the Corps and contribute to the work of human shadowing."

Chasing the dream of the blue sky, the ideal of youth is unswerving

Most of the shadow work is carried out in the wild, and hard work is inevitable.

"In the event of emergency activities, you need to pay attention to weather changes in real time, discuss and write operation plans, and at the same time, you need to keep in touch with the air traffic control department to ensure the normal use of the airspace in the operation area. I can't close my eyes for two or three days." Gao Yang said.

Gao Yang recalled that he accidentally smashed his head while performing a security mission in the plateau area. However, due to the lack of time, he was worried that he would miss the best time for the operation.

"A lot of equipment is relatively high, and maintenance requires a ladder. Although there will be various protective equipment and measures, there have been cases of falls." He said.

Since graduating with a master's degree in 2011, Gao Yang has been engaged in weather modification for more than 10 years.

Committed to the establishment of the airborne atmospheric sounding data processing platform, as well as the scientific research of cloud precipitation physics and artificial weather modification.

Participated in 2 major R&D projects of the Ministry of Science and Technology and more than 10 national and provincial scientific research projects.

He introduced that he has been yearning for the blue sky and nature since he was a child.

"Boys, being able to fly in the blue sky is something to be proud of. The plane carries all kinds of sophisticated equipment to help us uncover the mysteries of nature and carry out some scientific work, which is a very meaningful thing to me. " Gao Yang said.
