“We all are, really, just ghosts on the face of the earth trying to believe we have weight and a place in the world.

(We are all, really, just ghosts on the surface of the planet trying to believe that we matter in the world).

Why this book?

  • Because every new Stephen King novel

is an event and this one has just been released in its original version.

If you're an English speaker, it's a good way to perfect your English... but beware, the vocabulary could give you a hard time if you're just starting to read in English.

  • Because

    Fairy Tale

is a mixture of fantasy, thriller,

as usual… but also a fairy tale, as its title suggests, but a fairy tale… at the crossroads of horror.

  • Because like the short story

    Mr. Harrigan's Phone

    (

    from the collection

    If It Bleeds)

coming to Netflix in October, this is a new supernatural learning novel.

Here we have a young man helping an older person... which will start a beautiful friendship between them, and the old man's dog, but also some serious metaphysical misadventures!

  • Because the story is gripping and

we get attached to the characters.

How not to be moved by Radar, old Mr. Bowditch's dog?

  • Because we find another recurring theme

of Stephen King: the harmful effects of alcohol.

And he knows what he's talking about, since he himself is a repentant alcoholic.

The essentials in 2 minutes

The plot.

Charlie is a teenager who lost his mother in a tragic accident and whose father sank into alcoholism.

One day, he comes to the aid of an injured elderly person.

Back from the hospital, Mr. Bowditch wants to pay him to help with his chores.

But he hides some secrets...

Characters.

Charlie Reade, Mr. Bowditch, his dog Radar.

And other characters, very different and colorful!

Places.

The book takes place mainly in two places: a small town in which Charlie lives with his father.

And when the young man meets Mr. Bowditch, he will end up spending quite a bit of time in his house at the top of a hill… which is in disrepair.

And also another world.

The time.

Stephen King's novel is contemporary… but, like a fairy tale, part of the story will take place in another world, very different from ours.

The author.

Stephen King, world famous master for his contributions to the fields of horror and fantasy.

After more than 60 novels and books, the American novelist has just celebrated his 75th birthday!

This book was read with

great pleasure, impatience to discover the sequel and delight as to the plot and the universe of this novel… er, rather this fairy tale!
