In the spring of 2021 came the allegations that spelled the death of the beloved and hated reality show Paradise Hotel: two women accused a male contestant of sexual assault during filming.

A preliminary investigation was launched and NENT Group chose to shut down the program, while the entire season was taken down from all platforms.

The preliminary investigation was dropped due to lack of evidence.

Kulturnyheterna could simultaneously show 14 similar events from different programs in the history of reality shows.

It could have been the end of an era.

But with new rules, a new presenter and a new name, Paradise, the tumultuous reality series will be resurrected in the fall of 2022.

- As soon as you say "change", people think that you have to change everything.

But the only things that have changed are small things for the convenience of the participants and to show that they have taken on board the criticism that previous seasons have received, says presenter Tone Sekelius.

The double beds have been replaced with single beds

The updated rules are largely about relationships: according to Tone Sekelius, a thing like gender no longer has any meaning, but the participants are free to pair up with whoever they want.

The double beds have also been replaced with single beds, and clear rules for consent have been introduced:

- They have introduced super consent if you want to have sexual relations with someone: you have to leave the room and talk to someone who works there and explain that you want this, says Tone Sekelius.

- It is so that they can be sure that it is one hundred percent consent.

Continued intrigue

However, Tone Sekelius does not think that the new rules stand in the way of what is still the core of the program: the intrigue.

- The gaming opportunities and what you enjoy - should you be honest and get to the bottom of it or should you stab everyone in the back - all this only becomes more intense when you have so many more options to play on, says Tone Sekelius.

So we haven't got a reality show without intrigue?

- We have not been refused, says Tone Sekelius.

Paradise premieres on October 24 on Viaplay.
