The value of the most prominent work in the exhibition, entitled “Maba”, by the late Italian artist Alighiero Boetti, exceeds eight million dollars.

Boetti is considered one of the most important Italian artists of the 20th century, and his series of maps "Mapa" has won international acclaim, but this huge work is considered the most important in the series that spanned two decades.

The map presented by Boetti indicates the change in the scope of the borders of states, as it provides an unusual description of geopolitics.

He displayed a group of works by Andy Warhol, including paintings that fall under the classification of advertisements, as well as the work of Queen Elizabeth and the work of Muhammad Ali.

The exhibited works highlight Warhol's interest in printing, in his belief that nothing is unique, and that anything can be famous.

"Reign of Queens"

Warhol's collection that will be auctioned includes the four-piece "Reign of Queens", by Queen Elizabeth II, completed in 1985.

The pieces are richly coloured, drawn by Warhol in equal parts and full of vividness, and represent the celebrities of the cosmopolitan age in which they ruled.

It should be noted that the original photograph was taken on the occasion of the Queen's Silver Jubilee, a decade before it was painted, and Warhol re-presented it in a vibrant and different form.

He also presented at the auction a work by the boxer Muhammad Ali, which belongs to the “Athletes” series, and a group of works belonging to the “Advertising” group, a complete set of 10 editions, in which the artist reimagined commercial logos and turned them into contemporary works of art.

Historical value

"The work (Maba) is one of the rare and contemporary works that will be sold in New York, and the artist carried out the work in Pakistan by Afghan refugees, and its estimated value ranges between eight And $12 million, and it took nearly three years to complete from 1989 to 1991, and the artist implemented it with the women who worked with him in Afghanistan before the Soviet war.

Al-Deeb pointed out that there are 10 examples of this work in international museums, hoping that the work will go to an international museum, because it carries an artistic and historical value, as it represents a moment of the world in that period, and constitutes the stage of the beginning of the nineties, which witnessed many changes in the global map, so we see in the map The Soviet Union, South Africa, East and West Germany, and North and South Yemen, which are countries that have undergone a change in their geographical features.

Al-Deeb pointed out that the exhibition also presents the works of Andy Warhol, especially those belonging to the "advertising" group, and a work of Queen Elizabeth, which is expected to achieve a record at this stage, which is a work consisting of four pieces, and Warhol presented it without photographing it, but taking pictures and working on it. .

Al-Deeb expected that the work, estimated at between 900,000 to one million and 600,000 dollars, would achieve a record, especially since when Warhol presented the work, there were only four queens.

Al-Deeb stressed that Dubai exhibitions are an important station because they are a very basic market for Sotheby's, and for this reason it is planned that there will be more exhibitions on the annual calendar, explaining that there is a group of collectors who are interested in what the house offers in all auctions.

• 100 years since the discovery of the tomb of "Tutankhamun".

• $45 million worth of exhibits.

May El Deeb:

• "Dubai exhibitions are an important stop because they are a very essential market for Sotheby's."
