On the 26th, a total of six people filed lawsuits in Tokyo, Sendai, and Nagoya district courts seeking damages from the government, alleging that they were forced to undergo sterilization under the former eugenics protection law.

Among them, Sumiko Nishi (75), who lives in Hino City, filed a lawsuit with the Tokyo District Court.

Mr. Nishi, who has cerebral palsy, said that when he was 14 years old while living in a facility in Osaka, he was forced to undergo a sterilization operation without being explained the meaning of the operation. We are demanding compensation of 30 million yen from the country.



At a press conference, Ms. Nishi said, "When I met someone I wanted to marry and went to the hospital to have children, I found out that I was in a condition that prevented me from having children. I would like the country that created the law to take responsibility and respond with sincerity."



On the 26th, in addition to Mr. Nishi, three people in Sendai and two people in Nagoya filed a new lawsuit.

A total of 31 people have filed lawsuits nationwide over the former Eugenic Protection Law, and 5 of them have died.



In a series of trials, rulings to dismiss the lawsuit continued in various places on the grounds that it took a long time to file the lawsuit after surgery, but in February and March this year, high schools in Osaka and Tokyo. The court handed down a judgment ordering the state to pay compensation.



Some people have joined the plaintiffs as a result of the high court decision, so the lawyers say, ``The victims are aging.
