After an avalanche accident in the Himalayas, at least one skier is missing and several other mountaineers have been injured.

The avalanche occurred on Monday morning (local time) on the eight-thousander Mount Manaslu between the third and fourth mountain camps, a spokesman for the Nepalese Ministry of Tourism told the German Press Agency.

The search for the American skier on the eighth highest mountain in the world was still ongoing.

At least 15 injured Nepalese climbers were flown out by helicopter.

Bad weather would have temporarily hampered the rescue work.

The Ministry of Tourism issued a total of 404 climbers the permits they need to climb Mount Manaslus for the current fall season.

That is significantly more than the year before.

After the Himalayan chronicler Eberhard Jurgalski from Lörrach, who is actually appreciated by mountaineers, recently reduced the list of summit conquerors because he argued that only ascents count where the highest point was actually reached, a number of mountaineers are currently trying to reach this highest point after all , as reported by the “Himalayan Times”.

But finding the highest point of a mountain before GPS wasn't that easy.

Jurgalski excited the mountaineering world - and made Reinhold Messner foam.
