It is intended to be implemented “immediately”.

This Monday, the elected officials of the departmental council of Mayenne unanimously adopted an energy sobriety plan.

Among the 53 measures it contains, there is an astonishing “pull-over day” during which the heating will be lowered by one degree in several buildings managed by the community.

Every Friday, the temperature of colleges, administrative premises or certain museums will therefore drop from 19 to 18 degrees.

“This drop will continue during the weekend in order to have a real positive impact on the drop in consumption, around 7% less per degree”, calculated the county council.

A 10% reduction in two years

According to President Olivier Richefou, this plan aims “to reduce energy consumption by 10% over the next two years”.

To do this, 25 agents, called “eco-motivated ambassadors”, will have the task, for example, of sharing good practices and raising awareness among residents.

The plan also provides for the elimination of hot water in the toilets, the optimization of lighting, or even the incentive for agents to charge electrical appliances between 3 p.m. and 5 p.m., a period when the demand for energy is the lowest.

The Mayenne department is aiming for “carbon neutrality by 2040”.
