The fifth season of

The Crown

will focus on the tumultuous relationship between Lady Di and Prince Charles, who recently became King Charles III.

The plot will therefore take place during the 1990s. A particularly tragic decade for the British royal family, with the Queen's famous "annus horribilis", marked by the fire at Windsor Castle, the divorces of Charles and Diana, of Prince Andrew and Sarah Ferguson, then the disappearance of Lady Di in a terrible car accident in Paris, under the Alma bridge, in 1997.

A new cast

On the casting side, viewers will have to get used to new faces.

Olivia Colman, who played Elizabeth II, is replaced by Imelda Staunton, the actress known for her role as the villainous Dolores Umbridge in the

Harry Potter saga.

She will give the answer to a new Prince Pilip: Jonathan Pryce, seen in

Game of Thrones.

Lesley Manville will slip into the skin of Margaret, the queen's sister.

Filming for the sixth season of

The Crown,

interrupted a few days after the death of Elizabeth II, began in August.

And, we already know the young actors who will play William and Kate: Ed McVey and Meg Bellamy.

This next season will retrace the adolescence of William and Harry after the death of their mother Diana.
