The Screening and Reading Committee for the 17th session of the Sheikh Zayed Book Award at the Abu Dhabi Arabic Language Center of the Department of Culture and Tourism - Abu Dhabi began reviewing the works nominated for the award, and assessing their compliance with the conditions and criteria for the award.

The committee will continue its meetings to study the nominations for the current session until the end of the nomination period on the first of next October, to select books worthy of access to the long lists.

This came during the first meeting of the Award's Sorting and Reading Committee, which was held recently under the chairmanship of the Award's Secretary General and President of the Abu Dhabi Center for the Arabic Language, Dr. Ali bin Tamim, and the participation of a group of specialists in the award branches.

Ali bin Tamim said: “We commend the great role played by the members of the Screening and Reading Committee during this stage of the award, which is the scientific mission through which they seek to select the best and finest works that support the Arab and international cultural movement.

We thank them for their efforts, and we expect more work from them to spread the message of the noble award, and to enhance its transparency and prestige among cultural circles.”

It is scheduled to announce the number of final entries in October and the long lists next November, after which the specialized arbitration committees will begin their work to study and evaluate the nominations in the nine branches of the award according to the approved criteria, which include knowledge specialization, the level of content presentation, the extent of commitment to the analysis and composition methodology followed in it, and the aesthetics Language and style, adequacy, comprehensiveness, contemporaneity, importance and reliability of Arab and foreign sources and references, scientific honesty in citation and documentation, originality and innovation in choosing a topic, and addressing it in research and study.
