It will soon be a year since Saitama Prefecture became the first country in Japan to have an ordinance requiring people to stop and ride on escalators.

On the morning of the 26th, Governor Ohno and university students called for safe use of escalators at JR Urawa Station in Saitama City.

In Saitama Prefecture, for the first time in Japan, an ordinance requiring escalator users to stop and ride was enforced on October 1 last year, as the custom of leaving one side of the escalator open could cause accidents such as rear-end collisions and collisions. .

About 20 people, including Governor Ohno and university students, handed out flyers at JR Urawa Station in Urawa Ward, Saitama City, one year after the ordinance came into force, calling for safe use.

The leaflet says, "Let's stop on the left and right sides," etc., considering people who have difficulty holding on to only one handrail, and asking them to stop even if they are in a hurry to commute.

The male student who handed out the leaflet said, "I understand the rush, but I would like your cooperation for safe use."

Governor Ono said, "There are people who are scared, such as the elderly, people with disabilities, and pregnant women. I want everyone to stop so that they can use it with peace of mind, and spread their thoughts of safety and security."
