A police officer from the Angoulême police station (Charente), convicted of forgery and violence and banned from practicing for a year, committed suicide at his home, we learned from the prosecution on Wednesday, confirming information from the Actu17 site.
The 46-year-old official ended his life on Tuesday evening using his service weapon.
The case for which he had just been convicted on appeal took place in early 2019 in the Paris region, where this father of three children then worked in an anti-crime brigade, according to the regional daily La Charente Libre.
Sentenced for acts of violence and forgery in public writing
According to the Angoulême prosecutor's office, on September 16, the Paris Court of Appeal upheld a judgment handed down on November 19, 2020, which had sentenced him to a six-month suspended prison sentence, with a ban on practicing for one year, for acts of violence by a person holding public authority and forgery in public writing.
More than thirty police officers have taken their own lives since the beginning of the year.
